Autumn Equinox 2026

I’ve never read James Joyce’s Ulysses. But I have seen “Back to School” (1986), and it may tell you a little too much about me that this was my only reference (until I looked it up just now) for the quote “…yes I said yes I will Yes.” Reading the real thing (finally), Molly Bloom’s soliloquy starting at “the sun shines for you he said,” I found that “yes” occurs twenty-one times. But the word “and” shows up fifty-seven times. Those “and”s do a lot of heavy lifting in that largely unpunctuated passage.

My experience of putting together this newsletter was one of “yes, and…” as each article or idea led me down a new path to another. I can’t promise the connections that I saw will make sense to others, but (…no, AND!) I’d be interested to learn what kinds of connections come up for you!

The overarching theme for this notebook is that—whether taking on the specific threat of AI data centers and the surveillance state or surviving climate crisis—we are all in this together, and we need every one of us.
